Terms of Use & Community Rules

Last updated 13 September 2026 · All legal & data pages

Draft — awaiting external legal review. This document reflects how Sniffari works today. Questions in the meantime: support@sniffari.app.

These terms are an agreement between you and SNIFFARI (PTY) LTD, registration number 2026/712502/07 ("Sniffari", "we"). You accept them by creating an account or contributing content; browsing as a guest, be welcome — the community rules still protect what you see.

1. What Sniffari is

A community-built map of dog-friendly places: browse and read freely, and with an account — review, photograph, check in, verify places on-site, save lists, and follow other dogs and their humans. Browsing and contributing are free.

2. Your account

Keep your details accurate, keep your sign-in to yourself, and be old enough to hold the account under the law that applies to you (18 in South Africa, or your local digital-consent age). You are responsible for what happens under your account.

3. Community rules — zero tolerance

Sniffari has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. No harassment, hate, sexual content involving anyone underage, violence, spam, or content you have no right to share — and no misusing the map (false places, false reports, review manipulation).

  • Report anything from its "⋯" menu in a couple of taps — reviews, photos, places, or users. Reports are reviewed and acted on within 24 hours, and content that draws multiple independent reports is hidden automatically pending review.
  • Block any user to immediately hide all of their content from you.
  • Users who post objectionable content or abuse others will have content removed and accounts terminated.

Agreeing to these rules is a condition of contributing to Sniffari.

4. Your content

You own what you post. You grant Sniffari a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute your contributions within the service — that is what publishing to a community map means. You promise your contributions are yours to share, lawful, and honest (real visits, real dogs, real places). Photos are stripped of location metadata on upload; post only what you'd be happy for the community to see.

5. Deleting content and your account

Delete individual contributions any time in the app. Deleting your account erases your personal data and removes your account attribution from public reviews that remain — the full picture is on the account deletion page.

6. The map data

Seeded place data is © OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License; community contributions are Sniffari content held separately. Details, credits, and the data itself: sniffari.app/osm-data. Places change in the real world — leash rules, opening hours, whether the water bowl is out. The map is the community's best knowledge, not a guarantee; check local rules, especially where dogs and wildlife share space.

7. Sniffari Premium

Optional convenience features under an auto-renewing subscription ("Sniffari Premium"), billed by Google Play or the App Store at the price shown there, with a free trial where offered. Subscriptions renew until cancelled in your store account settings (Apple ID or Google Play); store refund rules apply. Everything needed to browse and contribute stays outside the paywall — Premium adds convenience, never access.

8. Acceptable use

Don't scrape or bulk-harvest the service, probe or overload it, impersonate others, or use Sniffari for anything unlawful. The community layer is not licensed for reuse outside the service; the OpenStreetMap layer is available under its own license at /osm-data.

9. Warranties and liability

Sniffari is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the last 12 months or R1,000 — except where South African consumer law (including the CPA) gives you rights that cannot be limited; nothing here takes those away. Your dog's adventures are your responsibility — assess every place with your own eyes and paws.

10. If you use an Apple device

These terms are between you and Sniffari, not Apple; Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support, is not responsible for the app, for any product, IP, or legal claim about it, or for third-party terms — those are ours. In the event of any failure of the app to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund any purchase price you paid for the app; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app. Your license to use the app on Apple devices is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, per the App Store Terms of Service. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You represent you are not in a U.S.-embargoed country and not on any U.S. government restricted-party list. Questions, complaints or claims go to Sniffari at support@sniffari.app, 184 Upper Buitenkant Street, Oranjezicht, Cape Town, 8001, South Africa.

11. Ending things

You can stop using Sniffari or delete your account any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these terms — for the community-rules violations in section 3, immediately.

12. The legal frame

South African law governs these terms, and South African courts have jurisdiction. If a clause is found unenforceable, the rest stand. We will update these terms as the product evolves and change the date above; material changes will be announced in the app.
